The Latin American Film Festival is back in town and ready to kick off next month, featuring 12 contemporary films to the Malaysian audience, free of charge.

Organised by the embassies of Latin American and Caribbean countries in Malaysia (GRULAC) comprising Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, the festival is set to run from Nov 1 to 8, taking place exclusively at the GSC Pavilion KL.

Representing GRULAC, the Ambassador of Mexico to Malaysia, Manuel Balaguer said this year's selection includes a wide range of genres, topic and style such as romance, comedy, drama, animation, documentary and horror.

He said the festival offers a perfect opportunity for Malaysians to see the world through the eyes of other culture and all films will be screened with the English subtitles.

"We want Malaysian people to know our movies and our various types of movies and also culture from each Latin American country.

"This festival is not only about entertainment but also gives the possibility to get to know the culture and richness of the Latin American countries," he told a press conference pertaining to the festival, here today.

The films which will be featured for this year's festival are Magarita the Sweet Chaos; Gente de Bien; Modern Nature; Anina; The House at The End of Time; U-Carmen eKhayelitsha; Cuba Libre; The Man of The Future; Alma; A ojos Cerrados; Illusiones; and Inseparables.

Balaguer added this year's selection will give an extra treat to cinephiles and foreign film enthusiasts, free of charge.
