AFTER a recent appearance in "The Night Manager," the one-time House star is back with a new leading role in an upcoming TV series. "Chance" is a dark psychological thriller which sees his character's life enter a downward spiral after making a bad decision.

What's the story?

San Francisco neuropsychiatrist Dr Eldon Chance is sucked into a violent and dangerous world of mental illness, mistaken identity and police corruption. After making a bad decision about one of his patients, he finds himself targeted by the woman's dangerous spouse, a violent police detective. On top of that, the doctor is dealing with contentious divorce proceedings and a troubled teenage daughter.

Who's on the cast?

After an eight-year stint as the legendary Gregory House, M.D., Hugh Laurie is back playing another small-screen doctor. A far cry from the eccentricity of Fox's limping medic, "Chance" is a darker show, inspired by Kem Nunn's novel of the same name. The author, who also worked as a screenwriter on "Sons of Anarchy," contributed to this TV adaptation, along with Alexandra Cunningham, who previously worked on "Desperate Housewives."

When does it air?

The thriller begins October 19 on Hulu, a subscription-based video streaming site that's a key rival for Netflix in the USA.
