The screening of the upcoming Walt Disney film, “Beauty and the Beast” in Malaysia has been postponed indefinitely pending a domestic review by Walt Disney Co (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

Buena Vista Columbia Tristar Films Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the distribution arm of Disney movies in Malaysia, when contacted by Astro AWANI confirmed the matter following public queries on the postponement.

“The announcements will be made by the respective cinemas on their social media platforms.

No explanation as to the rationale behind this decision was given.

The movie, a live-action remake of Disney's animated classic film, will begin its worldwide roll out on March 16.

Recently, the film’s director, Bill Condon, disclosed to a British lifestyle magazine, 'Attitude' that the movie features a ‘nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie’ courtesy of LeFou, the goofy sidekick to main villain Gaston -- the first for Disney’s history.

Starring Emma Watson as young Belle who falls in love with a horrific-looking man, it is one of the most buzzed about movies of the first-quarter of 2017.

TGV Cinemas when contacted said that the decision to remove the movie listings from its cinemas was done yesterday.

“The removal of the movie had to be done in staggered manner,,” said an executive of the company, who requested anonymity.

GSC Cinemas on its Facebook said that ‘due to unforeseen circumstances, the release of the all-time favourite Disney remake has been postponed until further notice.’

For those who have purchased the tickets in advance, can contact the respective channels for refund.
