The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted Bollywood actor Salman Khan permission to travel abroad for an awards show, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

Justice Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi allowed Khan -- currently out on bail after being convicted in a 2002 hit-and-run case -- to attend the Indo-Arab Bollywood Awards show on May 29 in Dubai while hearing an application filed by the actor.

Khan's lawyer Niranjan Mundargi told the court that the actor needed to travel from May 27 to May 30 due to professional commitments.

Khan will be required to inform the Indian Consulate in Dubai about his entry to and exit from the city.

He will surrender his passport to police within 12 hours of his return from Dubai.

"Since the applicant (Salman) is ready to abide by the conditions, his application deserves to be allowed," the High Court said.

On May 6, Salman was convicted by a sessions court of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced to five years in jail in the hit-and-run case.

A man was killed and four others were injured when Khan's Toyota Land Cruiser hit them while they were sleeping on a pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra on Sept 28, 2002.

The High Court on May 8 granted the actor bail and suspended his sentence pending hearing and final disposal of his appeal against conviction.
