Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad advised his son, state Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Datuk Mukhriz, to serve well as Kedah Menteri Besar and work hard to deliver all the promises made to develop the state.

Dr Mahathir said he was relieved that Kedah finally returned to BN following the simple majority win of 21 out of 36 state seats at the polls yesterday.

"The BN government will step up to the task and deliver all the promises it has made to develop Kedah on par with the other states," he said after the swearing in ceremony of Mukhriz as Kedah's new Menteri Besar at Istana Anak Bukit here today.

"Work selflessly and don't let anyone accuse you of being involved in corruption and so on. Serve the state and Malaysia," he advised his son.

Mukhriz won the Ayer Hitam state seat defeating PAS candidate Abd Ghani Ahmad by a majority of 2,446 votes.
