As information on a political party's goals, mission, objectives, as well as manifestos can be easily obtained today, the public's voting decision will be more likely based on the what they know about the candidates instead.

According to the Dean of Student Development and Alumni, College of Law, Government and International Studies, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Dr. Muhammad Fuad Othman, compared to previous years, the selection of candidates will play the biggest role for the 13th General Election (GE-13).

"This time around what is most important for the coming GE is the candidate itself because with the mass information gathered by the public, people can assess either the candidate could make a difference for them or not,” Fuad said when contacted by Astro Awani.

Political parties are expected to announce the list of candidates and where these candidates will be contesting over the next several days.

He added, the selection of candidates will distinguish either which political party will win or lose in the area contested.

"Right now, because of the GE-13 has been extended till the very end, the public has received too much information from both political party, by the end voters will evaluate the candidates themselves," said Fuad.
