The rakyat will understand better the benefits of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tables the 11th Malaysia Plan on May 21, said Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

The deputy minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism said Najib would provide a report on the implementation of the GST, which came into effect on April 1, when tabling the five-year plan.

"I am confident that after the report on the GST, the people will view the GST positively. They will reap the returns accrued through the GST," he told reporters after attending a community programme organised by Alor Setar UMNO here Sunday.

In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid urged the people to be patient in regards to the GST as it was implemented for their benefit.

"Yes there are some initial hiccups and there are people trying to take advantage of the situation but the authorities are on to them," she told reporters after attending a gotong-royong programme in Kampung Numbak.
