Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) has doubled the subscription of its units to 200 billion in the past six years since 2009, its president and group chief executive, Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said.

He said upon its inception in 1981, PNB had set the target of selling 100 billion units which was only achieved in 2009, while it managed to double the number less than six years later.

"This reflects the rise in awareness and understanding among the public on unit trusts " he told reporters at the launch of the nine-day Malaysian Unit Trust Week 2015 (MSAM 2015), here yesterday.

Hamad Kama Piah said PNB's continuous efforts in raising awareness as well as educating the public on investment concept and financial management had borne fruit while the success of PNB's unit trust schemes further boosted public confidence.

The 16th MSAM, held at the Sibu Town Square, is set to attract over 150,000 visitors.
Sibu is the second Sarawak's city hosting the event after Kuching, which attracted 187,000 visitors in 2010.

Hamad Kama Piah said the yearly MSAM had been improved over the years to make it more effective and interactive.

"More interactive programmes are added this year. These include discussions to help the public plan for their finance and manage their life better, he added.

The 16th MSAM provides educational activities on investment and financial planning as well as an exhibition put up by 40 exhibitors.

This year's showcase include programmes such as 'Maybank Mewarnai Duniaku', 'Jejak Pelabur Bijak NCB' and the MIDF Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Symposium from PNB group of companies, ASNB agents, regulatory bodies, and government and private agencies.
