Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (PGMSB), the advanced manufacturing arm under the Perodua group, rolled-out its 250,000th vehicle recently.

In a statement, Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) said of the 250,000 units produced, 85 per cent was the Axia (since PGMSB began production in August 2014) and 15 per cent was the Bezza (since June 2016).

"This is a historical accomplishment for the entire group; the PGMSB team has worked hard to ensure that our customers' orders are met in an acceptable timeframe," Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

Perodua sold 167,000 vehicles for the first 10 months of 2016, of which the Axia was the best seller with 44.2 per cent sold this year followed by the Myvi at 24.9 per cent, the Alza 17.3 per cent and the Bezza at 13.6 per cent (since July 2016).

On Perodua's latest model, Perodua has delivered over 22,000 vehicles since it was launched in July this year and the average waiting period for the Bezza is less than two weeks after the financial institution approves the hire purchase loan.

Aminar said that Perodua is currently maximising delivery of all its products as part of the compact carmaker's pledge to ensure speedy delivery of its products to its customers.

PGMSB was founded on Feb 26, 2013 as Perodua's initiative in becoming a global competitive automotive brand and as part of Perodua's transformation journey.

The PGMSB plant is certified as Energy Efficient by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry due to its minimal energy usage, as well as its use of more environmental-friendly chemicals.

PGMSB has 2,150 staff and is able to produce 200,000 units per annum on two shift-cycle. -- Bernama
