Malaysia's first free satellite TV service, Astro NJOI has achieved another milestone when it reached one million subscribers.

Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister, Datuk Jailani Johari said the achievement means that more Malaysians have access to quality content information.

"We are confident that NJOI will remain strong in helping to provide crucial information to produce more highly-skilled, creative, talented and innovative Malaysians," he said at the celebration event at Mydin Kuala Terengganu here today.

Meanwhile, at the event, Astro CEO Datuk Rohana Rozhan unveiled another surprise for NJOI subscribers.

"To celebrate this achievement, today we introduced Astro Maya HD (Channel 135), free for all NJOI subscribers," she said.

Astro also contributed five decoders to several community centres, as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The centres include Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Terengganu, Persatuan Kebajikan Islam Terengganu, Asrama Darul Falah, Pusat Jagaan Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak Kanak Yatim Terengganu, Pusat Dalam Komuniti Kuala Berang and Pusat Dalam Komuniti Mutiara Kasih.

Astro currently has 4.4 million subscribers with a penetration rate of 63 percent of households in Malaysia.

Thirteen percent of those were NJOI subscribers who contributed to a doubling of prepaid transactions last year, with sales reaching more than one million.
