Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tonight spent about an hour to oversee the final preparations for the 2016 Budget at the Finance Ministry here.

Accompanied by wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Najib, who is also Finance Minister, arrived at the ministry at 8pm and was received by staff and officers involved in preparing the budget.

Also present were Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, Deputy Ministers Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani and Datuk Chua Tee Yong, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

Najib is scheduled to table the 2016 Budget in Parliament at 4pm tomorrow.

In a statement, Najib said the budget would highlight the various efforts taken by the government to protect the economy in the ever-challenging global economic environment.

"This year, we focus on the efforts to strengthen our economy, manage the impact of external weaknesses and protect the people's wellbeing," he said.

Budget 2016 will be the first budget under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).
