All Malaysia Airlines' (MAS) A330 fleet flight decks are now equipped with Apple's iPad Air facility with electronic navigation charts from Lufthansa Systems and integrated Airbus Flysmart application.

In a statement today, the airline said the move paved the way for a paperless cockpit solution, with the streamlined processes helping increase operational efficiency and enhance safety of flight operations.

It said the interactive electronic information contains all required routes and airports, presented in a convenient manner for pilots, from take-off to landing.

Director of Operations Captain Izham Ismail said the system application would enable simplified flight preparation without compromising safety.

"MAS is a forerunner in the Asia Pacific to provide such electronic solutions on the flight deck.

"It is important that we harness current technology and valuable innovations to increase our pilots’ situational awareness," he added.

MAS said the applications allowed for better access for pilots and quick retrieval of flight information.

"Documents can be retrieved electronically and easily as opposed to searching for specific information in thick, hard copies of manuals," he added.

In addition, the airline benefits from an increased safety due to the simplified crew flight preparation and subsequently increased situational awareness.
