A maintenance program has been put in place by Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to deal with the sinking of KLIA 2.

According to a press statement released by MAHB today, the programs include routine patch works and pavement overlay and the construction of concrete slabs at affected parking bays.

19 percent of the total 1.48 million square meter airport area had been allocated for pavement overlay works. As of August 31, 2015, 79 percent of the overlay works had been completed.

The percentage of the area to be maintained with pavement overlay works will reduce over time, from 19 percent in 2015 tapering to a minimum of five percent by 2019.

Meanwhile, construction of the concrete slabs at affected parking areas and taxiway of the airport is expected to complete in 2016.

As of August 31, 2015, the construction is 63 percent complete with remaining works plan to be staggered to minimise operation disruption.

Opened in May 2014, KLIA2 was reported to face “sinking” parking bays and ponding issues, with water pooling on the airport’s taxiways.
