Passenger movements for airports under Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) grew by 10.6 percent to 9.1 million in February 2016 from 8.22 million recorded in February 2015.

International traffic rose 9.9 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) to 4.0 million passengers, while domestic traffic advanced by 11.2 percent y-o-y to 5.1 million passengers.

On a 12-month basis, the total MAHB system with Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SGIA) registered a 6.1 percent growth to 113.6 million passengers.

"Overall aircraft movements increased by 4.3 per cent with international and domestic movements increasing by 5.1 percent and 3.9 percent respectively over February 2015," the airport operator said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia Thursday.

For Malaysian airports, passenger movements grew by 6.9 percent y-o-y to 6.9 million passengers, with international and domestic sectors rising by 9.2 percent and 4.8 percent to 3.4 million and 3.6 million respectively.

Overall aircraft movements decreased by a marginal 0.8 percent, with international and domestic movements down 0.5 percent and 1.5 percent respectively over February 2015.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) passenger movements increased by 7.8 percent y-o-y in February 2016.

KLIA Main Terminal traffic decreased by 10.3 percent, while klia2 traffic grew by 25.5 percent.

On a 12-month basis, passenger traffic for KLIA Main Terminal fell 9.2 percent to 22.2 million passengers, but passenger traffic for klia2 rose 12.7 percent to 27.2 million.

"In addition to Malaysia Airlines' frequency cuts, KLIA Main's growth was affected by the absence of Jetstar Asia as well as the high growth of Malindo and Lion Air which have moved to klia2.

"Overall aircraft movements at KLIA in February 2016 increased by 1.0 percent over the same month last year. International and domestic aircraft movements at KLIA registered an increase of 0.7 percent and 1.6 percent respectively," MAHB added.
