Lazada Malaysia aims to expand the range of products under its automotive segment within two years, said Chief Executive Officer, Hans-Peter Ressel.

He said there are about one million automotive products currently available on its platform, including oil and fluids as well as accessories, adding, demand for these had been increasing.

"We are looking to add more products. Our sister company (Lazada Indonesia) has been selling motorcycles and we are considering that as well. But, we will still be focusing on accessories, because the demand is there," he told the media after launching the first official Shell online store on Lazada Malaysia today.

Ressel said the company would focus on meeting demand for vehicle components, including spare parts, before venturing on to other segments.

"We will cater to this segment before we consider moving on to offer used or new cars and motorbikes, which might happen next year or the year after," he added.

Currently, the e-commerce platform offers close to 40 million products for sale.

The collaboration between Lazada Malaysia and Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd is expected to benefit consumers, as they will have access to a wide range of Shell Helix products through the platform.

"Brands such as Shell recognise the importance of e-commerce in Southeast Asia, and we are looking forward to working with the company in growing its online presence, not just in Malaysia, but across the region," Ressel said.

The online store is also offering engine oil service packages at selected authorised workshops in the Klang Valley and Johor.

"There is demand for this product, not only in the metropolitan areas like Kuala Lumpur, but also in the east coast and the north. We are ready to tap this new customer segment. Workshops will also have access to product technical support with regards to the respective Shell Helix motor oil types," Ressel said.
