The Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) report which had placed Perak as the second poorest state in Malaysia is unreasonable, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

He said this was because the state government under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir had taken various measures to ensure Perak continued to achieve development.

As such, he said that he had directed Economic Planning Unit director-general Datuk Seri Dr Rahamat Bivi Yusoff to call a meeting between KRI and Perak government officials to explain the report.

Abdul Rahman, who is also UMNO Supreme Council member, was speaking to reporters after opening Gerik UMNO division delegates' meeting at Pengkalan Hulu some 50 kilometres from here.

KRI in its report on Monday said after Kelantan, Perak had the second highest number of households with income of less than RM2,000 per month.

In addition, 81.1 percent of households in the state were living with a monthly income of less than RM6,000.
