The Johor state government aims to come out with the Strategic Tourism Marketing Plan to promote the tourism sector more effectively.

Its Tourism, Domestic Trade, Consumerism Committee Chairman, Datuk Tee Siew Kiong, said the plan could also support and complement the state's Tourism Master Plan 2014-2023 launched last year.

"To achieve the goals under plan, the state government, through the Johor Department of Tourism, will hold a workshop, which will be officiated by Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre on Jan 11, 2016," he said.

Tee said this to reporters at a tourism and investment promotion programme, 'Explore Johor' here recently.

"The programme, from Dec 18-20, attracted 55 delegates from government agencies, tourism centre representatives, private tourism agencies as well as media representatives from Johor, he said.

Tee said 500 participants from various sectors in the tourism industry would be invited to participate in the workshop, including non-government agencies, tourism product owners and supporting industries such as hotel, logistics and restaurants.

He hoped participants at the workshop would contribute ideas to the plan so that every party could benefit from the economic impact of tourism.

Meanwhile, Tee said there were plans to make the Puteri Gunung Ledang theatre as one of the attractions for tourists in Johor.
