AirAsia plans to make Langkawi its international hub for the region by year-end, said chief executive officer (CEO), Aireen Omar.

"We are working closely with the government in trying to see how we can build Langkawi as the region's international hub.

"You can see that happening sometime towards the end of this year," she told a press conference after officiating the AirAsia-Bukit Bintang monorail station here today.

Aireen said the airline would hold another press conference with AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail soon to reveal its plans for Langkawi, as well as, announce new destinations.

Prasarana's "station naming rights programme" for the monorail station is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and offers companies an opportunity to transform a station to reflect the brand's corporate identity and name it after themselves.

Also present today was Prasarana Malaysia Bhd President/Group CEO Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz, Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Mohd Zahir Zahur Hussain and AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail.

AirAsia has also established a new sales centre at the monorail station for customers to make flight bookings, flight changes, add-on meals, baggage as well as seat selection.

The is offering a 20 percent discount for selected routes such as Bangkok, Clarke, Langkawi and Penang from today until Oct 19 for the travel period from Oct 12-29 next year.
