Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has called for federal government agencies to accelerate the implementation of Budget 2020 and the Economic Stimulus Package announced last week, by the previous administration.

He said that government spending must be done prudently and reduce leakages to ensure that the country's financial position remains strong.

"The Prime Minister believes that the annual budget allocation should bring huge return to the economic growth, to generate income for the people.

"Government programs and projects must be enhanced further so that public money are spent for the country's development and the people's well-being," said the Prime Minister Office (PMO) in a statement.

The statement is issued after a briefing today with Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir, Economic Affairs Ministry secretary-general Datuk Saiful Anuar Lebai Hussen, and Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali.

The premier was also briefed on the latest Covid-19 status by the Health Ministry’s special task force, along with officials from the Foreign Ministry, National Disaster Management Agency, Health Ministry, National Security Council and the Immigration Department.

The RM20 billion Economic Stimulus Package launched by the seventh Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday, is underpinned by three strategies to address the impact of COVID-19, stimulating people-based growth and promoting quality investment.
