Ten people have been detained so far by the police over the leaks of question papers for the Science and English Language in this year's Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).

KL Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief, SAC Gan Kong Meng stated that eight of the 10 are teachers while the other two, an insurance agent and an engineer.

"The 10, including three teachers, were detained in Negeri Sembilan last night," he said in a statement today.

Last Monday, four men were remanded for four days, of which the remand order will end tomorrow. Yesterday, the court granted the police an order to remand the engineer for four days.

Today, police arrested another three teachers, including a woman, and were granted another court order to remand them for four days.

"Two teachers, detained last Sunday, have been released on police bail after having their statement recorded on the same day," said Gan.

To date, 18 individuals have been called to record their statements, including six Malaysian Examination Syndicate (MES) officers, nine teachers with the rest being a journalist, the insurance agent and the engineer.

Following the leaks, the English paper 014/1 and 014/2 were cancelled after the pupils sat for the exam on Sept 11 while the Science paper 018, 028 and 038 were postponed even before the pupils sat for the exam.

The MES has fixed Sept 30 as the new examination date for both papers.
