Youth and Sport Minister Khairy Jamaluddin regarded those who questioned the success of national squash queen Datuk Nicol David at the Incheon Asian Games as 'stupid' and irresponsible.

A Facebook account holder had yesterday uploaded a negative comment on the Facebook account status of Khairy by belittling Nicol's success on the rationale that the sport was not contested at the Olympics.

Bangang, (stupid) he said when asked to comment on the matter.

"Khairy said he was not concerned if the individual belittled him as the Youth and Sport Minister but not athletes who went all out to bring honour to the country on the world stage.

"Our athletes are willing to set aside their personal problems merely to shoulder the country's challenges in Incheon and not many are willing to do that for national interest," he added.

"I want to know if the individual criticising Nicol's success knows how to play squash, before having the right to hurl any criticism," he told reporters here, today.

Nicol had contributed the nation's second gold medal after beating compatriot Low Wee Wern 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 12-10 in the final of the women's singles at the Yeorumul Squash Centre yesterday.

The nation's first gold medal was contributed by women's wushu athlete, Tai Cheau Xuen via the combination of Nanquan and Nandao event on the first day of the championship.
