A man was killed and two others injured in a four-vehicle pileup at KM203.7 of the North-South Expressway south-bound, near Taiping, early today.

In the 6.09am incident, Salim Sariboo, 43, who was driving the lorry which was carrying chicken, died on the spot.

Taiping police chief, ACP Yusuf Mohd Diah said the lorry crashed into the back of a truck-load of oil palm fruit.

He said the victim from Bidor died when he was trapped in the driver's seat while the driver of the lorry laden with oil palm fruit, 38-year-old Mohd Nasir Chek Wan, was unhurt.

"Following the accident, another collision occured involving a Proton Iswara and Nissan Teana due to the oil palm fruit falling from the lorry and scattered on the road," he said when contacted today.

Wan Mastura Zainal, 53, who was driving the Proton Iswara, was unhurt but her son, Mohamad Firdaus Idris, 22, was lightly injured.

Yusuf said the driver of the Nissan Teana, S. Gopinaath, 23, also sustained minor injuries.

He said Gopinaath's car had hit a bunch of oil palm fruit and skidded into a road divider.

"Wan Mastura, who came from the same direction, crashed into the car driven by Gopinaath. All had come from Butterworth heading to Ipoh," he said.

The dead victim's body was sent to Taiping Hospital while those injured sought treatment at the same hospital.
