The United States Embassy here observed the Day of National Mourning in Malaysia today by flying the US flag at half-mast at the mission.

A picture of the US flag at half-mast was uploaded onto the embassy's official Facebook account, U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur, Twitter account and the embassy's web page, http://malaysia.usembassy.gov/.

"The people of the United States stand with the people of Malaysia at this time of national mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost in MH17," said the post with the picture.

The picture showed the US flag flying at half-mast and a black placard with 'MH17' written in white placed at the embassy's front gate.

Flight MH17 crashed in Ukraine on July 17 as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew on board. The Boeing 777-200 aircraft is believed to have been shot down over the troubled country.
