The remains of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH17 chief steward Mohamad Ghafar Abu Bakar,54, will be buried in Ampang, Selangor.

His mother, Maimon Sarpan said she was informed of this by Mohamad Ghafar's wife, Normi Abdullah, 54, via a telephone call this morning.

Maimon,74, said MAS was also informed about the burial in Ampang.

She agreed that Mohamad Ghafar's remains be buried in Ampang since his third child Anif Aiman, 12, who died seven years ago, was also buried there.

"What is important, his remains arrive in Malaysia and burial can be done immediately as today is the seventh day after the crash," she told reporters at his home in Kampung Seri Tanjung, Masjid Tanah today.

Flight MH17 carrying 298 passengers, including 44 Malaysians, were traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it crashed in eastern Ukraine on Thursday.

The Ukrainian government believed that MH17 was shot down but until now no one had come forward to claim responsibility.

Maimon thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the success of negotiations to bring back the remains of the passengers and crew of MH17.
