IT was a memorable day for the family members of Malaysia Airlines MH17 chief stewardess Azrina Yakob, today.

Azrina, who perished in the MH17 tragedy in Donetsk, Ukraine along with 14 other cabin crew and 298 passengers on board the ill-fated flight, was to don her graduation robe to accept her bachelor's degree in Mass Communication (Public Relations) at the university’s 81st Convocation from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam.

Azrina was represented by her 65-year-old mother, Habibah Ismail in accepting the degree from UiTM Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Arshad.

When her name was announced, the attendees of the ceremony stood in a heartfelt gesture of respect for her.

Azrina, 41, who hailed from Alor Setar, Kedah is survived by her husband Mohd Rafliz Mohd Tahir and children, Arissa Raisya, three and Aqil Rais, six.

She joined MAS as a stewardess in 1992.

MH17 was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when the bird was shot down in the troubled eastern part of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic on July 17.
