The flood situation in Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu worsened as more flood victims were evacuated to flood relief centres in the states on Thursday night.

According to the Kelantan state government's flood portal, 8,505 flood victims were currently placed at 90 relief centres in all 10 districts, namely Jeli, Kota Bharu, Kuala Krai, Machang, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh, Gua Musang, Tumpat and Bachok.

The worst hit districts were Kuala Krai, with 2,373 victims placed in 13 relief centres whereas in Jeli the situation was almost cleared after flood victims were reduced to only 16.

Some 26 roads were reported to be completely closed to traffic in eight districts due to floods in the state, with another 12 closed for light vehicles.

As of 8pm, water levels at five rivers were reported to be at the danger zone, namely Golok River in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan River in Kota Bharu, Kuala Krai and Tanah Merah, and Lebir River in Gua Musang.

In Pahang, the number of flood victims also rose to 1,038 people from 255 families at 9.30pm tonight, up from 831 individuals from 200 families reported earlier this evening.

According to Kuantan District Police chief ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh, the highest number of victims were recorded at the relief centre in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pandan, with 690 people from 182 families.

He also said that two main roads at KM22 of Jalan Panching Utara - Sungai Lembing route and KM34 of Jalan Kuantan-Maran route were still closed to light vehicles as water levels had reached 0.65m deep.

The state's Department of Irrigation and Drainage reported that water levels in the Kuantan River near the Kuantan Bypass area had reached 3.87m which was above the danger level of 3.5m.

IN Terengganu, the number of flood victims placed at 102 relief centres statewide rose to 7,567, compared with 4,581 earlier in the afternoon.

According to the National Security Council office in the state, the district with highest number of victims recorded was in Hulu Terengganu, with 2,273 people from 740 families, while victims in Kuala Terengganu and Marang hadstarted returning home as the situation had improved.
