Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) director-general Datuk Mohammad Mentek has made an impassioned call to island resort operators in Sabah, especially those in Sabah's east coast, to cooperate with security personnel patrolling their area.

He said the operators included those observing their own security at their respective premises.

"Let the Semporna case (murder-cum-abduction involving a Taiwanese couple in Pulau Pom-Pom on Nov 15) serve as a wake-up call to (all) resort operators.

"It is time the operators review their security preparations, including getting sufficient well-trained security personnel and surveillance equipment," he told reporters on the sidelines of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Mohammad also said the matter would be raised when Esscom joined state tourism, culture and environment minister Datuk Masidi Manjun during his meeting with island resort operators soon.
