Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Central Leadership (MPP) said that the appointment process of the new Selangor Menteri Besar, Mohamed Azmin Ali, had affected the principle of democratic constitutional monarchy.

The MPP in a statement added that the appointment was not in line with the provisions of the Selangor constitution.

The council also expressed their regret over the treatment given by the palace to the nomination of PKR president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, which had fulfilled the requirements of the Selangor state laws with the support of the 30 assemblymen.

“MPP also disagrees with the way the palace handled the nomination process ‎of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was not summoned for an audience despite having clear majority support," it stated.

The MPP however said that it took into consideration the people’s interest and need to solve the state’s MB appointment issue as soon as possible.

They also respected Dr Wan Azizah’s request to withdraw as the candidate for the post.

“Following this, the MPP has agreed to the decision made by Dr Wan Azizah for Azmin to be nominated as the Menteri Besar candidate.

“This is in line with the MPP’s stand that the constitution and law should be upheld at all times. We also stress that the process such as this should not be made a precedent in the future,” said the MPP.

Dr Wan Azizah had announced her withdrawal as the state’s Menteri Besar candidate, following the official letter sent out by the Selangor palace on the appointment of Azmin Ali as the next MB today evening.
