What if waiting to cross the street was instantly fun?

That's the thinking behind The Dancing Traffic Light Manikin, an intersection of public safety, street furniture and interactive installation art.

Pedestrians waiting to cross a busy road in the heart of Lisbon were greeted by a signal light that seemed to have a life of its own.

And indeed it did -- for tucked out of sight on the other side of the Rossio square was a temporary booth that beamed participants' dance moves directly to the crossing.

The project was backed by vehicle manufacturer Smart, which observed that there was an 81 percent increase in patiently waiting pedestrians once the Dancing Traffic Light was installed.

Even if Smart uploaded its video in August, it's this week that saw a spike in interest for "The Dancing Traffic Light," with WebUrbanist, Mashable, Designboom and Colossal among the sites spreading the LED love.
