Outgoing Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim hopes his successor will continue with his legacy and to further improve the administration of the state government.

He said this was necessary because it would reflect the credibility of the new state leadership in caring for the people's welfare, as well as to stimulate the state's economic growth.

"This is the challenge for him (new menteri besar). If we do not do it, the people will punish us because we have promised this in the last 13th general election manifesto.

"If he continues with the effort, he will win the hearts and support of the Selangor people," said Abdul Khalid in an exclusive interview which was carried live on Astro Awani's 'Agenda Awani Khas' programme from his office last night.

He said more systematic programmes should also be organised to bring Selangor to greater heights.

These are among Abdul Khalid's advice to Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali who has been named as the new Selangor Menteri Besar.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new Menteri Besar is set for today at Istana Alam Shah, Klang.

On his future plans, Abdul Khalid said he would continue with efforts to safeguard the people's interests.

"I want to contribute in terms of thinking so that young leaders can learn from my vast experience in politics," he added.

On his tenure as Selangor Menteri Besar, Abdul Khalid said he took pride in having solved some of the problems facing the people, especially on the restructuring of the water industry in Selangor.

He also thanked the Selangor people, as well as the state government employees, for their support throughout his six years as Selangor Menteri Besar.
