The Khmer Rouge was responsible for the death of an estimated 1.7 million Cambodians between 1975-1979.

That’s about one-fifth of a generation wiped out. This has set the country back tremendously. Three decades later, the shadows of Khmer Rouge still cast a shadow in the political, economical and social progress of the nation.

In this episode, Cynthia Ng speaks to Youk Chhang, Director of the Documentation Center of Cambodia. Youk, who was named as TIME’s "100 Most Influential People" of 2007’’, feels that the Khmer Rouge has divided Cambodia and its people and the key to reconciliation is for the country to confront its past.
