For the past five years, People's Progressive Party (PPP) president Datuk M. Kayveas has been diligently going back and forth to Pasir Berdamar to solve people’s issues there.

The move was a mere helping hand to his counterpart Perak PPP information chief Ker Guan Chuan, who was supposed to be fielded to stand in the constituency as a candidate.

However, fate has it that Ker be dropped as a candidate and Kayveas fielded in at the last minute, surprising even the practising lawyer.

Despite the surprise, Kayveas is determined to soldier on in the constituency.

“PPP has won in Pasir Berdamar in 1969. Let me give it a shot this time. I hope for the best,” he told Astro Awani.

Kayveas said the area is no stranger for him as he spoke up on various issues concerning the local government including clogged drain, untrimmed grass and broken lampposts.

The Pasir Berdamar seat is the only seat that PPP is contesting in Perak. In 2008, PPP had contested the seat along with the Taiping parliamentary seat but lost in both places.

Kayveas, who was the candidate in Taiping, lost to DAP’s Nga Kor Ming who won by an 11,298 vote-majority.
