Former Gombak Setia State Assemblyman, Datuk Dr Hasan Ali announced he will not be contesting in the 13th General Election (GE13) but instead he will be campaigning to help Barisan Nasional (BN).

According to Hasan, he is more comfortable with Jalur Tiga (Jati), a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) he established in defending Islam, the Malays and the royal institution.

Hasan explained that the Malays and Islam need a strong NGO to face all challenges in upholding Islam and the Malay interest.

“We at Jati had vowed to continue fighting as we do not want to see Malays being oppressed in this country,” he said in a statement released here today.

Hasan established Jati after he was sacked by Pas early last year for his actions that are considered as illegal and against the interests of the Islamic party.

Hasan issued the statement in response to inquiries made by several parties regarding his participation in the upcoming GE13.

He said, he received an offer to contest for the election and that he appreciates the trust given to him by BN and Umno leadership.

However, after discussions with several parties and taking into account his participation in the three previous general elections, Hasan said he decided not to contest this time.
